“Above and beyond all else, Johnny Weir is a figure skater.” — Patti Weir, To Russia With Love interview. Photo via EPIX.
Part of the thrill of summer tour season is anticipating Johnny’s new exhibition programs. The big reveal will be this Friday, May 29, in Makuhari, Japan, when he performs in the first Fantasy on Ice show at 6 pm local time (5 am Friday on the East Coast). Twitter chatter suggests he may be doing the highly anticipated Carmen voted on by his fans, as well as possibly another program, but whatever he chooses, those lucky enough to witness it will surely be mesmerized.
UPDATE: Johnny confirms Carmen and Creep (see below) as his new programs!
I was reminded of Patti’s quote yesterday when Johnny tweeted:
It's funny to me when people think I'm full of myself in my Twitter & Insta bios by listing my accomplishments. Google me, I've done it all🐘

Yes, he is everything he states matter-of-factly in his Twitter bio: “Two-time Olympic figure skater, @NBC Olympic Analyst & Personality, Reality TV Star, Producer, Author, Spokesmodel, Designer, Entertainer, Papa of Тёма.” He has achieved brilliant success at the age of 30, and I’m pretty sure he’s not stopping there.
And it is his skating that started it all.
So while we wait for Fantasy on Ice, below are glimpses he’s shared with us in recent weeks from his practices, gathered together here to enjoy over and over even as we wish each clip was so much longer. (If you need more, please see the previous skating vid roundups here.)
Because it is his breathtaking, unparalleled skating, above and beyond all else, that first drew thousands and thousands of his fans to him, and continues to make us fall in love with him all over again every time he takes the ice…

And a different kind of practice vid: a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes every. single. time. for him to prepare to get on the ice.
Photo from Johnny’s official Facebook fan page, in a comment posted by Jennifer Jordan Sheets under the “For Mama & Papa” Instagram clip: “You were amazing to watch. My 10 year old son, Noah, enjoyed your blue hair conversation. And of course, my 5 year old, Augustin, gave you the best compliment of all. I heard he told you you were ‘a pretty good skater.’ He usually just growls at people. I snuck a picture for my friend who is a HUGE fan, hope you don’t mind! Thank you for being so sweet to the boys.”
