Fan Project: Send Happy Birthday Wishes to Johnny!

UPDATE! There’s still time to participate! Johnny’s birthday mail will be forwarded to him after he returns home from his Asian tours in mid-July. More details below!

Yes, it’s that time again: Johnny’s birthday is just FOUR WEEKS FROM TODAY! And that means it’s time to launch Birthday Fan Project 2015. :D

While it might be hard to top ourselves after last year’s 30th Birthday Spectacular, we’re going to try by doing something a little different this year, something simple that actually doesn’t even require PayPal:

We’d like to fill Johnny’s fan mailbox to overflowing with birthday cards, letters, and messages of love and support!

Johnny has spent countless hours not only entertaining his fans, but also autographing a billion things for us. Now it’s our turn to give back: to write to him and wish him a wonderful birthday, and to share with him how much we appreciate his kindness, his amazing and unique self, and all the extraordinary beauty he brings to the world every time he steps onto the ice.

Johnny mentioned several years ago how much he appreciates a handwritten letter (bonus points for cursive). So please send your birthday wishes to Johnny via his fan mail service listed on his official website:

Johnny Weir Fan Mail
P.O. Box 32326
Chicago, IL 60632

And please feel free to include a small gift if you like! His site notes that mail is limited to items that can fit inside a standard 5″ x 5.5″ USPS post office box, so we’ll have to hold those bulky fur coats and new cars for another occasion…

Johnny will likely be in Japan for his birthday this year for Fantasy on Ice in Kobe, so you can choose to send your birthday wishes to arrive before his birthday, or wait until he returns from his Asian tours in mid-July. The fan mail service assures that his birthday mail will be forwarded frequently and promptly, so hopefully he’ll be showered with goodies for several weeks or more.

To help inspire you, please enjoy this exclusive HD rehearsal footage from last year in Sun Valley that I totally forgot I even had. I came across it earlier this week as I was rooting around in my computer looking for something else entirely, and then everything was forgotten as I was immediately, utterly spellbound.

BRB writing him a birthday card to tell him exactly that…

    “…a standard 5″ x 5.5″ USPS post office box…”

Umm… so, in centimeters (because I live in Europe), that would be 12,7 cm x ≈14 cm? Does it have to be a “box” or does a bubble wrap letter with those measurements work as well? :) Anyway, a super good idea! :)

Laura: The “box” refers to the mailbox at the US post office into which Johnny’s fan mail is placed when it arrives. You are welcome to send any kind of package or letter as long as it will fit inside a mailbox of those dimensions.
