Johnny at the premiere of Lady Gaga’s ‘Fame’ perfume in 2012. He returns to the fragrance world’s red carpet this Wednesday as a presenter at the 2015 Fragrance Foundation Awards.
So among the many things I have learned since because Johnny is that there is a thing called The Fragrance Foundation and that they give out annual awards which, according to InStyle, are commonly known as “the Oscars of the beauty world.” And I now know this because the Fragrance Foundation tweeted that Johnny will be a presenter at the 2015 awards ceremony this Wednesday, June 17, beginning at 6 pm ET at Lincoln Center in NYC.
They also posted a quick five-question interview with him that opens with this sentence: “On the ice, men’s figure skater Johnny Weir’s artistry led to medal after medal.” So I love them.
I love the interview also. Especially his last two answers:
Favorite food: “Arugula.” [LOLSOB]
Most vivid olfactory memory: “My mother getting ready for work every day when I was a child. She has worn Youth Dew by Estée Lauder for as long as I can remember. I think we always remember the scents of people we love whether sexual in nature or not.”
Apparently the awards are kind of a BFD, with a red carpet, Getty photos (yes!), YouTubes of red carpet interviews (yes!!), AND “a live feed” of the event that begins at 5:30 pm ET, per the Fragrance Foundation’s Facebook, which IDEK what that means but maybe a livestream? Periscope vids? Or even just livetweeting some extra pics? Whatever it is, we’ll have full coverage here after the event with every scrap of Johnny we can find, which I’m hoping also will include video of him doing his presenter thing.
In the meantime, the phrase, “Oscars of the beauty world,” reminded me that if anyone deserves an Oscar in the beauty world, it would be Johnny—not for a fragrance (yet, though surely he’ll come out with one at some point? Yes? Because the world needs L’Essence du Dzhonnik in all forms, including bottled), but for his performance in the MAC video introducing his Glitter and Ice makeup line in 2011. Alas, that amazing video and its companion behind-the-scenes piece were removed from YouTube several years ago, a loss that fans mourn to this day.
So you can imagine my indescribable joy at finding the following—in HD!—on Vimeo recently, where it has apparently just been idly hanging out for the last three years after being uploaded by the guy who composed the music for the video:
And also the behind-the-scenes vid!
AND another clip that I had never seen before!, created to introduce Johnny at the MAC conference when his makeup line launched. Love the figure-skating history at the beginning:
Video link. …which has now unfortunately been set to private.
So to make up for that last one, here are two additional MAC-related videos:
Johnny introduces Glitter and Ice on WESH-TV in Orlando, Florida:
And Johnny performs at Millenia Mall for the launch of the collection:
He’s obviously Oscar-worthy throughout, but perhaps never more so than in this screencapped moment, which I’ll just leave here for you to enjoy until the Fragrance Foundation Awards commence…
