I am awash in so much Weibo-y goodness that it has taken me forever to figure out where to even start with the glorious madness that is/was (how is it already over??) the Artistry on Ice tour this year. So today we begin an ongoing series that may not conclude until possibly the next millennia with highlights of the tour as told mostly through outstanding exclusive photos from Joveta Leo, plus fantastic video of each Johnny portion of the show. The best videos came out of the Shanghai show: all HD, and all Johnny-focused. Just the way we like them.

There’s more to come, including airport arrival shots, backstage stuff, and exciting travel moments. But today we get to experience Artistry on Ice as virtual audience members, from the opening group number to the finale, with shots from every city included in each section. And then we can all daydream about maybe someday actually going to see this spectacular tour in person…

Most of these photos are huuuuuuge. Those without the Weibo watermark are exclusives courtesy of the lovely Joveta.

OPENING GROUP NUMBER, 2nd half. Possibly the most fun one could ever have in a group number.

Joveta explains: “This song is called ‘The First Experience of Love.’ It used to be very popular many years ago, and it is hot again now because of this show.” I love everything about this. Johnny’s partner in this program is Olympian Ksenia Stolbova, a many-medaled Russian pairs skater of whom he wrote on Instagram: “I got to perform and fall in love with one of my skating heroes, the beautiful and talented Olympic champion @ksu_stolbova! ❤️”

Some of us are very fortunate we get the opportunity to work at something we love. Sometimes unfortunately that work, as awesome as it is, keeps us tied to a desk for a greater part of our day, so focused on nurture a burgeoning business, vacation becomes a future dream.

The last couple of years I’ve taken a virtual vacation. So vivid have been the images and videos, I feel I am in Japan or China or Taiwan attending ice skating shows which I love. And watching Johnny Weir. I love the videos because they give you an overall view of the performance the grand gestures, the dizzying spins. the obligatory backward slide across the ice. But what I get a kick out of viewing is the artistry a still photo conveys when a performer is in the zone.

I can’t help but feel Johnny Weir loves his job because when he performs he is definitely in the zone! His hands and his face purvey that so eloquently. He seems to loves the camaraderie and the creativity of it. He practices and practices those routines, different every year and is so thoughtful when he pays tribute to the culture of the country in which he is performing. But he keeps going overseas because I can’t help but believe he loves the entire process. And Johnny, with the help of his awesome fans, shows what being excellent and having fun looks like.

I’ve been busy but I’ve been following the blog and I can’t tell you how delighted I am Binky that you collected all of this media and put it in one place so us Johnny lovers can just sit back and relax and watch. And Joveta’s photos just give me the chills they are so good! I love being at the airport with him, behind the scenes and at the performance. It seems so magical and so rewarding.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our viewing pleasure and thank you Johnny Weir for being you.
