Johnny and Tara on the scene at The National Dog Show. Via ShowSight.
Yes, at last, here are all the Johnny-and-Tara moments that aired (and didn’t) during NBC’s broadcast of The National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day. Very special thanks as always to our beloved video ninja, Jenn Kittler, for the additional clips! For all the previous and extremely thorough dog show coverage, please see this post.
Johnny and Tara’s first appearance during the broadcast.
And their third appearance: a commercial for Purina’s #DogThanking campaign.
These segments are digital-only and did not air during the broadcast:
Johnny and Tara learn about dog handling, and Johnny “stacks” Tara for the judges.
Johnny and Tara discover the diva world of dog grooming.
Their brief air time was very well-received on social media and throughout the web. My fav mention is this tidbit that appeared after the holiday weekend:
If you fell asleep in front of the TV while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, you may have woken up to the 2015 National Dog Show. …
[T]he most exciting part of the whole thing, which was actually kind of a yawn fest TBH, wasn’t watching the bitches, it was watching the betches: Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.
They were special correspondents for the event, and to tell you the truth, I’d probably watch these two host paint dry. They totally bring it in fierceness of outfit and commentary. That’s probably why they’ve kind of become NBC’s go-to team for spicing up televised events you don’t care that much about. Whether it be something they probably know something about (i.e. Olympic ice skating) or something that just requires a great outfit and a hat that is fancy as fuck (i.e. The Kentucky Derby) Johnny and Tara are there, just being generally fabulous and saying things that are ridiculous.
ICYMI, NBC Sports has started making portions of Johnny and Tara’s commentary available on the video section of their website at this link. The latest upload: Yuzu’s stunning world-record free skate from NHK Trophy, with Johnny, Tara, and beloved Uncle Terry Gannon weighing in.
NBC also aired Yuzu’s world-record short program during the NHK broadcast, which fortunately is available on YouTube (or at least until somebody at NBC notices it’s there) also with commentary from JT&T:
The Dream Team returns to our televisions on Sunday, December 20, 4 pm ET with NBC’s coverage of the Grand Prix Final. Don’t miss it! Get ready for the GP Final action with Johnny’s take on all four disciplines in two new interviews:
Riding the high off the performance at Grand Prix Japan, I don’t know how Yuzuru’s going to deal with that. I mean, it’s a lot of pressure he’s put on himself, to be better than himself. But even if he skated like that and made one mistake, he’d still have it all over the other men…. Read more here.
The ladies are super interesting. … My personal favorite is Yevgenia Medvedeva, the Skate America champion and a barely silver medalist at Grand Prix Russia. She is, to me, the brightest star that Russia has produced. … But Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner, both in the Final, very exciting for the U.S. … Read more here.
