Earlier today, my dear friend Elena Vasileva tweeted:
The more tragedies we have in the world, the more beauty we need to live.
I couldn’t agree more. So in keeping with that philosophy, we present an exclusive new photo series plus exclusive video from the vault: Johnny, in all his fantastical glory as Dracula, performing in the Halloween on Ice tour. His haunting program to Masquerade: Waltz plus his exuberant silliness in the special encore video is just the kind of beautiful distraction I need right now. I hope it is for you as well.
But first, we have lots of Johnny news to catch up on! While this has been a fairly quiet month since Johnny and Tara returned from Florida, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes, and things will be heating up in April (and May…). Here’s what we have to look forward to thus far:
(1) First up: Johnny will be LIVE at Worlds with commentary for NBC and NBCSN next week! His live coverage begins with the men’s free skate next Friday, April 1, 9 pm ET / 8 pm CT, followed by the ladies’ free skate on Saturday, April 2, 9 pm ET / 8 pm CT. NBC is also broadcasting an encore presentation of Worlds on Saturday, April 10, with Johnny’s commentary.
In addition, he and Tara will be doing a conference call tomorrow to offer their insights/predictions for Worlds to sportswriters everywhere, so please check back for updates as the Glitter Twins’ quotes become available. To whet your appetite for new Johnny bon mots, please enjoy this new article from Phil Hersh about Yuzu and his coach, Brian Orser, featuring some great Johnny quotes.
UPDATE: The transcript of Johnny and Tara’s conference call re: their take on Worlds has just been released! A sample:

(2) Johnny heads to Texas for a special performance at Galleria Dallas for the annual Beauty Live expo. On Sunday, April 10, Johnny will be interviewed by “America’s sassiest lifestyle guru” Steve Kemble at 1 pm as part of a fashion show happening at that time—I think. Details from multiple sources are a little fuzzy, but Steve is super-excited… Then at 4 pm, Johnny will skate at the Galleria’s rink along with forty other local and national skaters. Dallas fashion and lifestyle blogger Cynthia Smoot has more info:
Outspoken figure skater and fashion commentator Johnny Weir will share his fashion and beauty insights in a special discussion moderated by Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru.
BEAUTY LIVE ON ICE
The festivities conclude with a grand finale show on the ice. Olympian Johnny Weir joins a cast of forty local, regional and national figure skaters in an amazing free performance. Additional featured skaters include 2012 U.S. National Pair Champions Caydee Denney and John Coughlin, 2016 U.S. National Junior Lady and 2015 Novice Lady Champion Emily Chan, from Houston, 2016 US National Junior Lady Silver Medalist Vivian Le, from Plano, 2016 US National Juvenile Dance Pewter Medalists Shin Lei Case and Maxim Zharkov, from Arlington and more.
The Galleria released this video earlier this week featuring Johnny:
(3) Come see Johnny skate live in Art2Skate at his home rink in Wilmington, Delaware! The Skating Club of Wilmington, where Johnny films all those wonderful Instagram practice clips that we love, is hosting Art2Skate April 15 and 16, with two nights of performances plus a special meet-n-greet with Johnny the morning of April 16. Show tickets can be purchased here, and meet-n-greet tickets here.
The club posted this personal invite from Johnny over the weekend on their Facebook event page:
Seriously, how can anyone say no to this? Get those tickets now!
UPDATE! New video from the Skating Club of Wilmington:
(4) And finally: Johnny will be performing in Edvin Marton’s Kings on Ice in Sofia, Bulgaria. While Evgeni Plushenko is always the star King of this tour, he is currently recuperating from surgery for a herniated cervical disc. Rather than cancel the show, however, the producers decided that this performance of Kings on Ice, on Saturday, April 23, will go on as a special tribute to the legendary skater. Tickets are available here for anyone lucky enough to be able to go!

And now: onto the exclusive photos and vids. Johnny’s Masquerade: Waltz is one of his most mesmerizing programs, and his final, passionate performance in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was truly spectacular. Please take your time to savor each one of these beautiful shots. As always, most of these pics are huuuuuge, so please click any photo to view it in all its full-size wonder.
The following shots of the program’s ending are absolutely amazing. Johnny’s control in sliding across the ice with his arms raised is just wow.
Johnny’s brilliant and haunting final performance as Dracula to Masquerade: Waltz. Note: at this final tour stop, the arena was jampacked and we were seated right next to some very active young audience members. In their rapt enthusiasm, they kept accidentally bumping the tripod and breathing into the sensitive video camera microphone, as you may notice in the audio… But we enjoyed seeing how much these little ones loved the show!
