He’s the self-proclaimed Queen of Bryant Park, Queen of China, Queen of Everything . . . and especially Queen of our hearts. ❤️ Here’s how to give Johnny the royal treatment for the holidays!
Yes, it’s that time again: we’re launching our fan project to send Johnny and his pearl eyebrows special holiday wishes (a project which, as always, we should have launched about a week ago but that’s just how this entire year has gone, so yay that we’ve managed to pull this together at all. I for one cannot bid goodbye fast enough to 2016, because no matter what 2017 brings, I’ll be able to say, “Well, at least this isn’t 2016 . . . ”)
As with his birthday earlier this year, fans have two easy ways to help Johnny celebrate: everyone is invited to send him individual cards or small gifts through his fan mail service, AND all are welcome to participate in a fun group gift that we hope he’ll love.
Here’s how to join in:
(1) Please send individual Happy Holiday wishes to Johnny via his fan mail service listed on his official website:
Johnny Weir Fan Mail
P.O. Box 32326
Chicago, IL 60632
(Please note that fan mail is limited to items that can fit inside a standard 5″ x 5.5″ USPS post office box and that do not require a signature for delivery.)
(2) To contribute to the group gift, please send PayPal to email@example.com. No amount is too small! Deadline for contributions is tentatively Friday, December 30, at 12 midnight (23:59) ET. (We’ve extended it past December 25 because we’re hoping to deliver the gift to Johnny in person when he performs at the University of Delaware on January 6, which also happens to be the day before Russian Orthodox Christmas, so technically still the holiday season . . . ). The names of all contributors will be included with the gift, so please specify in your PayPal message how you’d like your name to appear on the list: full name, first name only, Twitter handle, or whatever you prefer. You also may include a brief note to Johnny if you wish.
Because we’d like the group gift to remain a surprise for Johnny, the details can’t be posted here on the blog. But here’s a completely cryptic hint as to our theme:
Post-massage realness. Goodnight! by @johnnygweir
Also as always, if contributions exceed the cost of the group gift — which, given the generosity of Johnny’s fans, is very likely — the remainder will go on a gift card for Johnny.
Please help spread the word throughout social media by downloading and sharing the image at the top of the post or the one below so everyone has a chance to participate! If you have any questions about the holiday gift project, please feel free to email me.
And here’s a gift from me to you. As I mentioned on Instagram yesterday, I happily discovered unreleased rehearsal footage on my computer of Johnny from the Art2Skate show which he headlined back in April of this year at his home rink, the Skating Club of Wilmington. His Friday rehearsal footage can be seen in this tribute to his dad.
This video is from his Saturday evening rehearsal, of which we have no photographs because Davey wanted to just watch Johnny skate for a moment.
The footage is paired with k.d. lang’s ‘Hallelujah’: one of my favorite songs, whose author, Leonard Cohen, was among the many irreplaceable artists we lost this year, and which also is the song that k.d. sang at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
The result took on a breathtakingly poignant beauty of its own. I hope it speaks to you as it does to me.
Wishing you all peace, joy, and love this holiday season and always. ❤
